School Daze

Yesterday was the first day of school. Owen is starting Kindergarten and Nyle is stating 4th grade.
We are homeschooling the kids hough it is a public school. It's a system setup by the State of Indiana. It is called K-12. Nyle has always been home schooled and done well. It's always stressful for student and teacher, and her husband...
We are getting ready to remodel our Hall. I have food services. This is the last RBC action in the region, probably the state and perhaps the whole world.  I found out yesterday I will be responsible for feeding everyone through the week, and this is supposed to be a 10 day straight project. No pressure there...
The garden is all but done. A few green beans and some straggling tomatoes and the okra is still producing. We did not have a good year for melons. We had too much rain for several weeks and it stunted them
Nearly drowning everything out. However to my surprise the potato did pretty good. We got close to 60 pounds and I think we only planted 5 pounds in only 1 row.
I planted too early was another problem.  I'm always anxious to garden after a winter of cold snowy winter. Next year I intend to wait until June 1 to plant anything but cabbage and the like.
Yesterday, August 18, we harvested our first honey from our 1 hive. One 9 frame medium super with all but one side completely chocked full of honey produced about 2 gallons of honey.
It's hot, messy, and time consuming, but oooooh soooo gooood! Worth the stings that I got before I learned how to suit up to work the hive. I now wear THICK winter coveralls,  rubber boots, and pant legs tucked, a veil ,and thick leather gloves. Of course, I have the smoker, but the bees are still pretty mad when I tear up their house and take their honey.
I guess I'd be mad too.
We'll more to write but no time now
Closing

On more thing. I heard Nyle say the other day in a voice full of fear and regret from another room say,
"Oh no,I deleted the internet!"
Lol

Honey Harvest

Today we harvested about 1.5 gallons of honey from our 1 hive. It was just 1  9 frame medium. The bees were as angry  as a swarm of bees.
We just scraped the frames with a wooden spatula. Then separated the wax from the honey with the aid of a screen sieve. That worked fairly well, though time consuming. Tasted really good anyway!

Hamshack Progress July 4, 2015

Well it has  been a while since I posted anything on the old blog. I've been busy with trying to get my hamshack/mancave in shape before winter starts here. Even though it is July at the moment, I know winter will be here before too long.
And I'd like to get all my radio equipment out of the barn and the basement of this house as dust keeps filtering done on to my stuff. Not good!
I've gotten most of the electrical wiring run. I've put in several 220 and 110 voltage receptacles and will start trying to hang ceiling drywall in the next day or 2.
Today is our family service day and this evening we are going to the catfish festival in Shoals.
It has been a very wet June and July. Our garden is doing fair, but too much rain.
